Wednesday is Desk Day–Pay Bills, Bring All Your Personal and Family Business Up to Date, and File

Every Wednesday:

  • Pay Your Bills
  • Take Care of Personal and Family Business
    • Do you have letters or emails to write and send
    • Do you have calls to make
    • File—Put away any papers you will/may need to retrieve in the future in a way that you will be able to find them. I can tell you how I would put them away so I could find them (alphabetically by topic) but how will you be able to find them.

The Area of Focus from the 15th to the 21st is your Bedroom, En Suite Bathroom, and Closet. Clear the papers out of your bedroom. Your bedroom is your sanctuary. Papers and junk have no place in your sanctuary. Your bedroom is a place for rest and relaxation for you and your husband.

imageUse It or Lose It—Cosmetic Shelf Life

When you are decluttering you will find duplicates. Let’s talk about your personal care and cosmetics. Often you buy a brand of something. It does not wow you so you buy something else but keep the old product. Cosmetics and personal care items do not improve with age. Either get rid of it or use it. I have some Regenerist skin care items but decided to give Mary Kay a try. I started to use the Mary Kay but made myself go back to use up the Regenerist. Then I will use up the Mary Kay before I decide which I want to use. My daughter also gave me some Phytomer Toner that I like and that product line is in the running. I want the best product I can get for a reasonable amount of money. I am again including a list of the shelf life of cosmetics. They do not last forever:

Cosmetics are not required to carry an expiration date but they do spoil and/or lose their effectiveness over time.  At the really bad end of the spectrum they may cause infection or skin irritation. Creams, gels, lotions or other water-based cosmetics are more likely than powders to foster moisture-loving bacteria. Whenever any cosmetic product is opened and exposed to air and light it begins to degrade. To extend your cosmetic’s shelf life, keep tightly capped and store containers away from heat and sunlight. For safety sake, follow the “toss by” tips below.

Product:

Shelf Life after opening:

Toss when:

Mascara

3 months. Do not add water or pump the wand into the tube. That can introduce microbes that make mascara spoil faster and irritate eyes

Becomes clumpy; brush does not evenly transfer mascara onto lashes

Lipstick

1-2 years

Oils in formula turn rancid; color fades; oil droplets form; once-shiny lipstick looks dull or matte

Foundation – Bottle

3-6 months. Wide-mouthed jars can expose more product to air, making it break down more rapidly

Ingredients begin to settle or separate; texture thins or thickens; odor seems off

Foundation – Pressed Powder

1+ years

Glaze forms on top; odor seems off

Foundation – Loose Powder

1+ years

Odor seems off

Powder, Eye Shadow, and Blush

1+ years

Glaze forms on top; powder cracks or crumbles

Eye & Lip Pencils

1+ years. Sharpen eye pencils weekly  to prevent bacteria from being transferred to your eye area

Product dries or crumbles

Your nose is a beautifully designed safety feature. If food or cosmetics or any product that you eat or touch smells off, it’s a good rule of thumb to not put it on your skin or in your mouth.

imageConsidering Titus 2—Slander

The older woman does not slander. Slander, according to Dictionary.com, is a malicious, false, and defamatory statement or report. An older woman and anyone else who wants to live a life in line with God’s will does not speak with malice, say what they know not to be the truth, and does not defame others. Let’s take this over into gossip. Gossip from the concept of go sip was sharing news as you sipped. Gossip is sharing information where you are neither a part of the situation or a part of the solution. Dishing with friends about people you profess to love, like your husband, is a betrayal of that relationship, especially when you are trashing them to make yourself look better. I am not talking about seeking counsel but of simply trashing your husband to your friends. Be your husband’s best friend.

Rather than just look at the negative let’s look at what Scripture tells us to do

Philippians 4: 8

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

Focus on God, focus on what is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. Know that there is evil but keep your focus on godly attributes.  In the epistles, when Paul would share a  concern, he would first list the good points of the people he was writing. He would say, “I know that you excel in these areas (list) but I have this concern. This is the godly viewpoint on that concern.” (Basic concept greatly condensed). In talking to your husband about concerns, in talking to your children, in wisely speaking with anyone, focus on the good first and then gently mention your concern. Speak the truth in an abundance of love.

Hugs,

Mary

  1. Hi Mary,
As a Mary Kay Skin Care Consultant for many years, I wanted to let you know that our products have a 3 year shelf life. Mascara is recommended that it is replaced every 3 months. I always use mine at least 6 months and never once have had a problem. Glad to hear you are using Mary Kay! It truly is a phenomenal product. In my opinion, it is the best on the market :-). We have botanical skin care for the naturalist, brand new clear proof for blemished skin, TimeWise anti- aging for most ladies until you become “mature” and we have a new skin care that is TimeWise Volu-firm. I think it’s so great how you keep everyone up on all the organizing tips daily. There is always room for us to improve. Thanks for all you do for the body of Christ!

    Blessings and love
    Sylvia. <

    1. Thank you, Sylvia. At 64 Time Wise is still working well and I have not yet moved on to the product for mature skin. Mary Kay is a great product line but I am grateful that quality skin care and cosmetics for every budget, age and stage almost any where we shop. You are such a lovely lady and I appreciate your comment.
      Hugs,
      Mary
