SOAP for January 20, 2015 Job

IMG_0371The responses Eliphaz and Job’s other “comforters” need to be considered in the light of Job 42:7-9.

7After the LORD had finished speaking to Job, he said to Eliphaz the Temanite: “I am angry with you and your two friends, for you have not spoken accurately about me, as my servant Job has. 8So take seven bulls and seven rams and go to my servant Job and offer a burnt offering for yourselves. My servant Job will pray for you, and I will accept his prayer on your behalf. I will not treat you as you deserve, for you have not spoken accurately about me, as my servant Job has.” 9So Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite did as the LORD commanded them, and the LORD accepted Job’s prayer.

While all that is written in the Bible is true—an accurate account of what occurred—everything in the Bible is not Truth. The things Job’s comforters said to Job were accurately reported but were not Truth according to the LORD.

We need to be careful what we quote in the Bible and make sure it is Truth and not just a reporting of what happened. Some cite different types of marriage in the Bible but God defines marriage as one man, one woman for life. That is one difference between true and Truth.

My Father,

Help me to discern Truth and know and understand how you work and to what purpose. If I do not understand, help me to trust You.

I love You,
