Walk in God’s Love

Update

Roy is improving but his patience is not. He so wants to be up and around and have all the tubes and wires off of him. As I walked through the section of Philippians that is below, I got a well needed kick in the pants as far as my attitude goes in this situation.

Last night our son arrived from Ohio, and he was a welcome sight in more ways than one. I was happy to see him but he let me go home and sleep in a real bed for the first time since Friday night. I started some laundry, showered and was asleep within 30 minutes of arriving home.

I got up early this morning and kept the laundry going, did the ironing I was going to do Saturday  when we had to make an unexpected visit to the ER and put my office and guest rooms back into order. I packed up the paperwork to bring it up here to the hospital so I could focus on it during the day.

I was back at the hospital at 7:00, cleaned up and ready for the day. I also have my Daniel Plan materials for the meeting tonight at church. A wonderful friend messaged me and is meeting me at church a little earlier than I would have to be there to facilitate the class with a Daniel Plan friendly meal.

I am so grateful Kent is here so I can do a few things and get a little sleep at night without being concerned about Roy.

I have had to learn to quit taking advantage of life’s legitimate excuses. Taking time to iron, do laundry, straighten my office, and pickup around the house frees my mind while I am up at the hospital with Roy. I know that when we do go home, my house is orderly and I don’t have a backlog of work to do. I am not that virtuous. I just want to make our life easier and more pleasant. My focus is not on being organized or having a spotless house but on having a pleasant place for life for Roy, our family and friends. If your focus is on having a clean and organized home to the point no one especially your family feels welcome there, your focus and attitude is all wrong. I will say again, I do not clean my home for guests. I clean my home for us and the guests find welcome there, too.

Walking Through Philippians: Philippians 2:12-18 Do Everything Without Grumbling

Wow! This is timely for me. My husband has just had surgery and irritable on his behalf is not an adequate description. I needed to hear this, this morning  because I am so tempted to respond in kind. This is a course corrector for my day. Thank you, Lord.

IMG_0351What are we to do? What attitudes are we to have?

  • 12Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,

Who is working in us?

  • 13for it is God who works in you
    • to will
    • to act
    • in order to fulfill his good purpose.

What else are we to do?

  • 14Do everything without grumbling or arguing,

Why?

  • 15so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.”
  • Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky 16as you hold firmly to the word of life.
  • And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain.
  • 17But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you.
  • 18So you too should be glad and rejoice with me.

Hugs,

Mary
